Today we’re talking about whether a not-for-profit is a good career choice for you.
Not for profits have grown in the last few years. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world. There is a multitude of career options for you that mainly focus on you as a senior executive at the latter end of your career. Yes, it’s perfectly acceptable for you to become a leader in the area of Not-for-Profits.

There are various levels of Not-For-Profits; in each country, they have the national level, the regional level and then they have the local level. The lower you go, the lower your pay will be, but the rewards, when you make a not-for-profit career choice, are still there.
Many people, enjoying the latter end of their career have built their bank balance and their retirement savings and they just want to give back. Perhaps what is in the payroll is not as important as the rewards.
Executive Recruiters may Specialize in Not-For-Profit
There are many, options. There are the executive recruiters who specialize in not-for-profits. It is a huge and expanding industry but do your homework. There is a not-for-profit for everyone in all countries, across the world; there are national ones and of course, there are big global ones. Some of them are based in New York, however many of them are based in Switzerland. You might like to consider one of those. They accept international candidates but be prepared to answer questions on why you want to go and work for that particular not-for-profit.
There is a huge world out there of not-for-profit careers: community-based, disease-related, industry-related, functional related. So think about where you would like to go and market yourself to those companies.
If you are in the latter part of your career, and you’re not worried about money, I would say, try and help. What are you going to lose? There are jobs waiting for you right now in a not-for-profit at the senior executive level at the national and the international level. They have to compete with the corporate salaries so it’s likely that your salary won’t go down or very be reduced very minimally. At the local level, we’re talking about a different story. Their salaries aren’t as good, but it’s what you want to get out of it. If you are passionate about helping somebody who is in a disease-related or some community enterprise go for it, you can help many other people with the skill sets you’ve accrued in your corporate life.
