Leveraging and Creating Relationships With Executive Recruiters

September 18, 2019 by Martin Buckland Leave a Comment

In this article and video I talk about how to leverage and create relationships with executive recruiters and why that’s important for your career.

Executive recruiters are an integral part of an executive MBA graduate’s career advancement. They can bring you tremendous value. Creating a relationship with an executive recruiter is the first step. To develop a relationship with an executive recruiter, utilize your network. Ask someone in your cohort or at your office to introduce you to a recruiter.

You can also put out a request on social media. This is a great way to engage your network and allow an executive recruiter to get to know you. Being active on LinkedIn is highly beneficial and a great way to showcase your experience.

You need to market yourself as a subject matter expert. Start connecting with executive recruiters to find out what value they can bring you.

As an eMBA graduate, do your research and get connected with the “big six” global executive recruiting firms:

  • Korn/Ferry
  • Spencer Stuart
  • Heidrick & Struggles
  • Egon Zehnder
  • Russell Reynolds
  • Boydon

Recruiters at these firms specialize in particular functions. Uncover the recruiter who is right for your career goals and start marketing yourself to that person. Do this by using your cohort, your friends, your co-workers, and others in your network that can help introduce you to the recruiter.
