Should You Take An International Position During a Recession?
So the question today is, ‘Can I move internationally during a recession?’.
There are many pros and cons for traveling internationally, even in good economic times, but in bad economic times such as a recession, your chances of moving are severely restricted. However, case in point right now, I’m working with one of my EMBA clients who is currently in South America and because of her reputation, she was found by a headhunter in London for a job in Switzerland. So, that tells you, yes, you can travel internationally for a career position. And they are going to facilitate that transition, but be careful, there are so many restrictions right now. Not just because of COVID, but there aren’t aircraft to fly you between here and there and everywhere.

You can do it, but you need to be careful and you have to have the willpower and the drive to leave your current place of work and travel to elsewhere in the world.
Here’s a tip for you. If you do that and you become an ex-pat, you can really fill your bank balance. Being an ex-pat, doesn’t matter where you are anywhere in the world, can really help you financially. Plus, it’s a new challenge. You learn a new culture maybe learn a new language and a new challenge is very important in careers.
So yes, you can transition during a recession, but be careful because there are various restrictions. Make your own decision.
