So today’s topic is very interesting. Should you stop your job search if you are expecting a job offer?
Ramp it Up!
To get an offer is the icing on the cake. You’re probably pretty excited. I know many of my clients, especially in today’s economy, are really excited to get a job offer. But please, don’t stop your job search. In fact, you need to ramp up your job search because sadly that offer may never transition into a written document where you sign that agreement between you and your next employer.

Multiple Job Offers
If you really market yourself and you push that job search like a full-time job, most of you could get yourself into multiple offers. That’s the situation that I encourage my clients to get themselves into. Don’t just go for one. Don’t you think that two, three or even four would be better? Yes, because you are in then in a position to negotiate with all those two, three, or four employers. You can negotiate better benefits, a better salary, and you can bounce the offers off each other.
Get Aggressive
So I would suggest that having one job offer is the trigger to launch a very aggressive job search. See if you can get two job offers or even three. By the time you get to the stage where the first job offer is coming in, you must be pretty far advanced in your job search. So you must have other things in the pipeline.
You are looking at maybe other jobs, but they just haven’t agreed to more interviews or the actual offer. That is an opportunity to push them when you go for your next interview. You can tell them that you’ve got a job offer, and then if they are serious, they will then expedite a job offer. Then you’ve got two, and you go to another interview and you may get three. I’ve often seen clients who are in multiple job offers even in a recession.
If you are in career transition, or you are in a job offer or multiple job offers situation, I do multiple job offer coaching.
