You are a Product

This may come as a surprise to many people, but you are a product. You’re marketing that product and everything else that you create, your cover letters, your resume, your CV, your LinkedIn profile is the package.
I’ll give you an example. When you go to the supermarket, you see those top brands, at eye-level. Those companies pay that grocery store a lot of money to have their products at eye level. You don’t just want a minimum amount. So you don’t want to be the bottom and you don’t want to be high up there…you want to be at eye level.
Get Into Sales Mode
So you need to get into a sales mode. Now for some functions, it can be difficult. It could be very trying to get into that sales mode. I have many people say, that they do not want to sell myself. Those people who get into that mode and change their mindset, that they are a product. And they’re sending that product to their defined market. Don’t be broad in your job search, be very particular. It’s like the bullseye. And if that bulls-eye doesn’t work, you move out slightly and maybe a bit more, all those big brands in the grocery store, they are marketing psychologically to you. You need to think of how you all going to market yourself to your defined audience within your geography.
